TM-B
10-15-2026
We’re thrilled to announce that the TM-B has been selected for TIME’s Best Inventions of 2026.
Making TIME’s list, which includes 300 extraordinary products that are changing lives, is an affirming milestone for the TM-B (and ALSO as a whole), validating our commitment to reshape the future of transportation to be less dependent on cars.
TIME asked their editors and correspondents from around the world to make nominations, while paying special attention to growing fields like health care, AI, and transportation. TIME then evaluated each nomination based on originality, efficacy, ambition, and impact.
We’re proud to see TIME recognize the specific category of innovation the TM-B represents. Read on to learn more about the features of the TM-B that are breaking new ground.

DreamRide, the TM-B’s software-defined drive unit, is what makes the bike go, not gears or chains. Unlike other bikes, there’s no direct mechanical connection between the TM-B’s pedals and rear wheel.
While pedaling is converted to electricity and stored in the TM-B’s battery, it’s DreamRide that propels the bike forward, simulating any gear scenario you can imagine.
And DreamRide creates a riding experience that a fixed set of gears simply cannot, equipping the TM-B to flatten terrain to make hills as easy as level ground, switch ride modes to go from a joyride to an intense workout, customize a relaxing route for your morning commute, and more.

We don’t expect all riders to be bike mechanics (the TM-B is for everyone!). That’s why the TM-B’s interchangeable Top Frames can be swapped using just a few taps of the finger, making it easy to modify anywhere, anytime.
In less than three seconds, you can move between three distinct seating configurations including a cargo setup for hauling kids, groceries, and more, depending on the ride you have planned.

The Portal, the TM-B’s hi-res touchscreen, makes navigating on a bike safer than ever before. It connects with your phone (through the ALSO app) and displays navigation, so you can keep your phone securely stashed away and your hands on the handlebars, where they belong.
Beyond navigation, the Portal is the window into your ride, keeping tabs on all kinds of data, like speed, cadence, and assist level. And with one swipe, you can easily switch between ride modes.

For most daily trips, driving isn’t necessarily the best option, yet it often feels like the only one. As Chris Yu, Co-Founder and President of ALSO, puts it:
“We use the same car, truck or SUV for a two-mile coffee run and a 200-mile road trip. It has become the default not because a car is required, but because people didn’t have many credible alternatives.”
Yu saw that demand for micromobility was already there. What was missing was a bike that didn’t ask riders to give up certain conveniences they’d come to expect from a car, so Yu wanted to make sure that the TM-B addressed those concerns:
“Through the use of deep hardware and software technology, combined with thoughtful design, the TM-B makes choosing a smaller vehicle feel like a first choice, not a compromise.”
With more people choosing the TM-B over their cars, ALSO is reshaping transportation with fewer cars on the road, lower costs for our riders, and cleaner air for all.
The credible alternative to driving is finally here, and ALSO is dedicated to bringing the TM-B to the people by coming to them through our traveling Test Spin program.
More than 10,000 TM-B Test Spins have been completed across the United States, and the first shipments of the TM-B are now arriving at customers’ doors.
